Hysterosalpingography (H.S.G)

Hysterosalpingography (HSG ), that is, a medicated uterine film, is a diagnostic method used to examine the tubes and uterus by radiographic methods by injecting contrast media. During the procedure, a liquid seen on a radiograph is injected into the uterus from the cervix, allowing this liquid to make the inside of the uterus and the tubes visible.

Histerosalpingografi (HSG) nedir?

Hysterosalpingography (HSG), that is, a medicated uterine film, is a diagnostic method used to examine the tubes and uterus by radiographic methods by injecting contrast media. During the procedure, a liquid seen on a radiograph is injected from the cervix into the uterus, allowing this liquid to make the inside of the uterus and the tubes visible.

Since the contrast agent is given by pressure from the cervix, in some cases it can also have a therapeutic effect by clearing the mucus-like blocking structures in the tubes. Classically, there is an increase in pregnancy rates in the first 6 months after the uterus film is taken. Uterine film is a commonly used technique in cases of infertility, as it shows the condition of both the tubes and the inside of the uterus.

In which cases is HSG (medicated uterine film) requested?

The most common reason for use is infertility. Despite the advances in imaging techniques, the method that best shows the permeability of the tubes is still a medicated uterine film, that is, HSG.

What do I need to do to have an HSG (Medicated Uterine Film)?

It is usually necessary to be examined by infertility, IVF or obstetrics outpatient clinics. If your doctor has requested an HSG shot from you, you should definitely request the necessary prescription for an HSG shot from your doctor.
